The Grand Hotel, Newcastle University
Grand renovation complete!
The historic Grand Hotel on Barras Bridge recently underwent a major refurbishment by Newcastle University. Originally built in 1902 the Grade II listed building was bought by the University in 1958 to accommodate students from across the globe.
The £2.5m renovation has modernised the facilities to meet tenant demands, improved the buildings environmental rating and using Taplanes® pod showers, increased the number of en suite rooms from 48 to 66. Located on Percy Street the hotel is part of a wider investment in facilities that includes the neighbouring INTO project.
With the client, Jonathan Braunton our specification engineer and regional representative selected the Grampian en suite pod as best suited to the job, with its rectangular shape echoing that of the rooms.
This keystone development opened last September and is home to 600 international students, featuring science labs, a learning resource centre and 90-seat lecture theatre.
